How to use this tool

  1. Set the root font-size (16px is the default).
  2. Type a px or rem value.
  3. Copy the CSS or the 1–32 table.

Worked example

16px → 1rem, 24px → 1.5rem, 32px → 2rem at a 16px root. At a 10px root, 16px → 1.6rem. Pair with the color-contrast checker when you are also checking WCAG text size. Fluid min/max type is the CSS clamp calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is the default root?
16px — the usual browser html font-size. Switch to 10px if your reset uses that trick (62.5%).
How is rem calculated?
rem = px ÷ root. 24px at 16px root is 1.5rem. The reverse multiplies.
Is this the same as em?
No. em is relative to the parent font-size. rem is relative to the root.
Why a 1–32 table?
Designers still search for a px-to-rem table. Copy the list or type a one-off.
Uploaded?
No.
