Alt Text Generator for Images
Write alt text from a filename, subject, and context. Local — this is not a vision model.
Product red sneakers, on a white seamless background
Good length for most CMS fields.
How to use this tool
- Paste a filename or type the subject.
- Add context (setting, brand, action) if it matters.
- Copy the alt into the img attribute.
Worked example
product-red-sneakers.jpg plus context “on a white seamless background” becomes “Product red sneakers, on a white seamless background.”
Frequently asked questions
- Does this look at the pixels?
- No. There is no vision model. We humanize the filename and the words you type.
- What about decorative images?
- Tick decorative. The correct alt is empty so screen readers skip it.
- How long?
- A short sentence. We warn past 125 characters.
- Should I start with “image of”?
- Usually no. The screen reader already says it is an image.
- Uploaded?
- No. We never see the file bytes.
