Frequently asked questions

Which formulas?
Flesch Reading Ease: 206.835 − 1.015×(words/sentences) − 84.6×(syllables/words). Flesch–Kincaid Grade Level: 0.39×(words/sentences) + 11.8×(syllables/words) − 15.59.
How are syllables counted?
Vowel groups in each word, minus a silent trailing e (except -le). It is an estimate. “Another” can be off by one.
What score should I want?
60–70 is plain English for a general site. Legal and medical copy often lands lower and that can be correct.
Does this use an LLM?
No. Counts only. The text never leaves the tab.
Other languages?
The formulas were built for English.
