Free Canonical URL Builder
Free canonical URL builder. https, lowercase host, drop utm/gclid/hash, sort query. Browser tool — nothing is uploaded.
Canonical
https://www.example.com/Blog/?a=1&b=2
Host
www.example.com
Path
/Blog/
Dropped params
utm_source
How to use this tool
- Paste a dirty URL (scheme, port, utm, hash).
- Choose slash and path-case policy to match the live server.
- Copy the canonical into a link rel=canonical or sitemap.
Worked example
HTTP://WWW.Example.com:443/Blog/?utm_source=x&b=2&a=1#frag becomes https://www.example.com/Blog/?a=1&b=2. Add campaign tags on the UTM generator; slug a path on slugify.
Frequently asked questions
- What belongs in rel=canonical?
- The URL you want indexed: usually https, lowercase host, no default port, no tracking query, no hash. Path case and trailing slashes should match what the server actually serves.
- Which query params are dropped?
- utm_*, fbclid, gclid, gbraid, wbraid, msclkid, mc_eid, _ga, _gl, igshid, vero_id, oly_*, ref, ref_src. Functional params (page, id, q) stay.
- Does this fetch the URL?
- No. It only rewrites the string you paste. It cannot see redirects or HTTP vs HTTPS on the live host.
- Same as a UTM builder?
- Opposite job. UTM adds campaign tags. This strips them for the canonical you put in the head.
- Uploaded?
- No.
