Worked example
₹15,00,000 salary, new regime: taxable ₹14,25,000 after ₹75,000 standard deduction. Slab tax ₹93,750 + 4% cess ₹3,750 = ₹97,500 (about ₹8,125 a month). 80C and 80D do not apply on this new-regime path — compare them on the old vs new page. Salary-side ESI is a payroll deduction, not income tax.
Frequently asked questions
- Did Budget 2026 change the slabs?
- No. FY 2026-27 keeps the Budget 2025 new-regime slabs: nil to ₹4 lakh, then 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30%. The Income-tax Act, 2025 applies from 1 April 2026.
- Why is ₹12.75 lakh salary tax-free?
- Standard deduction ₹75,000 brings taxable income to ₹12 lakh. Section 87A rebates up to ₹60,000, so tax is nil. Above that, marginal relief applies.
- Is this the old regime?
- This page is the default new regime. Use the old vs new calculator to compare 80C and HRA.
- Surcharge?
- 10% above ₹50 lakh taxable, 15% above ₹1 crore, 25% above ₹2 crore. No 37% slab in the new regime.
- Is salary uploaded?
- No. The math runs in this tab.
