Age 40, ₹14,000 savings interest plus ₹80,000 FD interest, old regime: 80TTA allows ₹10,000 — the FD interest does not enter the bucket. Age 62 with ₹8,000 savings plus ₹30,000 FD: 80TTB allows ₹38,000, ₹12,000 still unused under ₹50,000. Compare the rest of old-regime room on the 80C calculator and old vs new regime.

Frequently asked questions

What is 80TTA vs 80TTB?
80TTA: up to ₹10,000 of savings-account interest if you are under 60. 80TTB: up to ₹50,000 of interest from savings plus FDs/RDs/post office if you are a resident senior citizen (60+). Caps are statutory and unchanged in recent Budgets.
Does the new regime allow this?
No. Chapter VI-A deductions including 80TTA and 80TTB are closed in the default new regime for FY 2026-27. Switch the toggle to see ₹0.
Can a 40-year-old deduct FD interest here?
Not under 80TTA. FD/RD interest is taxable for non-seniors; only savings-account interest fits 80TTA. Seniors use 80TTB for both.
Is this the same as 80C?
No. 80C is a separate ₹1.5 lakh basket (PPF, ELSS, life premium). This page is interest on deposits.
