Frequently asked questions
- How does NSC compound?
- Annually, and the interest is paid at the 5-year maturity (NSC VIII Issue). This page does not split the deemed-interest 80C add-back in years 1–4.
- Why is the rate an input?
- Small-savings rates are notified every quarter. A hardcoded 7.7% would rot.
- Is there a yearly cap?
- NSC itself has no PPF-style ₹1.5 lakh purchase cap. Section 80C still does, on the old regime.
- PPF or NSC?
- PPF locks 15 years and compounds in a running account. NSC is a 5-year certificate. Use both pages if you are splitting 80C.
